Tepic

Seeing a lot of Virgin of Conceptions in Nayarit! The sun shines on Mary! Cathedral, downtown Tepic.
My Huichol host, Marcello! He is a bi-lingual elementary school teacher who owns a small house in Tepic, making the trek up to his community every sunday night. 1 hour on the bus...1 hour on a boat to cross a massive lake...3 hours walking a trail, before he arrives. There is no electricity, running water, nothing, but his children shine! My friend Diego in Tepic. I met Diego and many others on a website called couchsurfing.com!
You can definitely see the influence of peyote in the art of this town. It is everywhere in Huichol art, the cactus sacred to the Huichol for centuries. This is inside a church in Tepic. There is a grass cross that apparently has been growing since the 1500s. The cross sprouted out of the dirt and has never been watered or fertilized. Street art Tepic...a creature grabs...well...just look!
