Garden of Innocence

Though difficult and supposedely dangerous road, my journey into the desert on day 1 has been wonderful and filled with unexpected surprise.

I left Spring Valley, CA last night from St. Sophia Catholic Church, the pastor and secretary of which graciously received me and allowed me to camp on their grounds near the chapel.

There at St. Sophia, I met Georgene Krutzel who gifts her time to her local parish and to a non-profit that names, finds a cemetery plot, a casket, and buries newborn babies who have been abandoned and found lifeless at local hospitals in San Diego. So far this organization has provided the dignity of a name and proper burial for 105 newborns since 1998. Please visit their website and contribute to others making a difference for those without a name or a voice (see www.gardenofinnocence.com)

Iamwalking.org is more than the physical journey of one man from LA to Brazil. Here at iamwalking.org, we are committed to showcasing the areas in life where you can BE the change in life. We thank you Georgene for your gifts and the inspiration you are to others!

As I made my way out of Spring Valley, I felt the stress of the cars on busy streets and the constant mental chatter of daily life fall away as I walked into the night.

I slept for a while behind a store in Jamul, where in the morning another wonderful person gifted me tons of food, a sombrero, and vitamins. I continued on my way…

Halfway between Jamul and Dulzura, Maxwell Gardiner from ABC Channel 10 came out to report on the walk and to tell people in San Diego that we can be whatever we imagine and a whole lot more!

I will leave you on that note as I head off again into the night from Dulzura, CA. There is much more to follow. Stay tuned!.
